Tool Details

  • Tool name: Interstitial Fluid-modeled Medium
  • Alternate names: IFmM
  • Tool type: Media
  • Tool sub-type: Cell culture media
  • Purpose: Culture medium for eukaryotic cells based on the chemical composition of interstitial fluid
  • Application: Standard culture / maintenance of cells, and during infection with the parasitic bacterium Coxiella burnetii (isolate: RSA439).
  • Description: Most cell culture media were designed based on easy of use and the ability to support maximal growth of continuous cell lines but do not necessarily reflect physiological conditions. For example, the concentration of glucose in some cell culture media is considerably higher than what one would be considerd normal in humans. IFmM is a cell culture medium based on the chemical composition of interstitial fluid (IF). IF is essentially a filtrate of plasma and the conduit of nutrients for cells/tissues outside the vasculature
  • Cell lines validated for growth / viabiliy in the media: J774A.1 (ATCC: TIB-67), THP-1 (ATCC: TIB-202), JEG-3 (ATCC: HTB-36), and VERO (ATCC: CCL-81).

  • Research area: Cell biology

  • For Research Use Only

Target Details

Application Details

  • Application: Standard culture / maintenance of cells, and during infection with the parasitic bacterium Coxiella burnetii (isolate: RSA439).
  • Application notes: IFmM should be supplemented with FBS and/or antibiotics based on the culture requirement(s) for any cell line in question

Handling

  • Storage conditions: Store refrigerated. Stability / shelf-life not tested but expected to be similar to commercial cell culture media.
  • Shipping conditions: Same as other culture media: Ship at ambient temp then store at 4 degrees upon delivery.
  • Mycoplasma free: Must be tested / verified as necessary (e.g., per batch).
