Purpose: Culture medium for eukaryotic cells based on the chemical composition of interstitial fluid
Application: Standard culture / maintenance of cells, and during infection with the parasitic bacterium Coxiella burnetii (isolate: RSA439).
Description: Most cell culture media were designed based on easy of use and the ability to support maximal growth of continuous cell lines but do not necessarily reflect physiological conditions. For example, the concentration of glucose in some cell culture media is considerably higher than what one would be considerd normal in humans. IFmM is a cell culture medium based on the chemical composition of interstitial fluid (IF). IF is essentially a filtrate of plasma and the conduit of nutrients for cells/tissues outside the vasculature
Cell lines validated for growth / viabiliy in the media: J774A.1 (ATCC: TIB-67), THP-1 (ATCC: TIB-202), JEG-3 (ATCC: HTB-36), and VERO (ATCC: CCL-81).
